Billionaires versus Millionaires
The NFL owners decided to opt out of the current collective bargainingagreement (CBA) which sets up the possibility of a lockout, a yearwithout a draft and an uncapped year. Are the NFL owners and playersassociation dumb or greedy enough to screw up a good thing?

The one thing that makes the NFL the number one sport in the country isparity. The fact that all 32 NFL cities (except maybe Detroit wh...

Are you a Traditionalist or Obstructionist?
I grew up in Washington DC without baseball for the first 25+ years ofmy life so I am not overly enamored with the traditions of the sport tobegin with. I was watching ESPN this morning and Tim Kirkjian commentedthat he does not want to see instant replay in baseball beyonddetermining fair or foul in homerun calls. He cited the tradition ofhuman error as a part of the game.

Sorry baseball folks b...

Smoltz on track for Monday return

John Smoltz threw two scoreless innings in his first rehab appearance yesterday. He threw 27 pitches and struck out three batters. Of course, this is Single-A ball we are talking about, so the results are not important. What is important is that he was happy with his delivery and felt no discomfort. Bruce shines in debut
Jay Bruce made his major league debut on Tuesday night, and it was one he’ll never want to forget. Hitting in the two hole, Bruce reached base all five times that he came to bat, twice by walking, and three times by swinging the wood (two singles and a double). He tacked on his first two ML RBIs, two runs and stole a base as well.

Over on Diamond Hoggers, The Natural Mevs discusses his tr...

Need some saves?

Troy Percival collapsed after throwing a pitch today while attempting to close out his 15th game of the season. There is nothing to lead me to believe that anyone not named Dan Wheeler will be closing out games in his absence. The only other choice is Al Reyes. Look at their game logs and stats, and you will agree that Wheeler is the way to go. This is the type of pickup that could reap g...

Prospect Watch – Mat Gamel (Updated)
All of you Huntsville Stars fans out there need to get to the ballpark soon. Mat Gamel is not going to be there too long, and you do not want to miss out on seeing this kid. Not the way he is swinging the bat right now, at least.

Third basemen that hit .384 don’t grow on trees. Neither do ones that hit ten homer runs, knock in 43 runners, cross the plate 48 times, and steal three bases. All ...
